Shank’s work is spontaneous taking place as she paints. A complexity of forms and shapes begin to show themselves as colors expand on the surface. The surface appears to be in a continual state of flux as those forms take shape. Shank’s dominant characteristic in her work is a strong sense of organic life as everything in the paintings seems to animate, interacting with its surroundings.
